August 17th Update: Mayor Lives the High Life on Taxpayer Dime

Dolton Mayor Funds Her High Life with Taxpayer Dime

Mayor Tiffany Henyard of Dolton, IL, was reported last week to have allegedly misused public funds, spending on first-class flights, luxury hotels, fine dining, and a $40,000 shopping spree on Amazon in one day. These funds were sourced from taxes, fines, fees, and other revenues.

"If you hear this is fake news, it's not… This is real," Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said during a meeting, who led the investigation that uncovered Tiffany's alleged misuse of public funds. She noted that there were no checks and balances recorded on Tiffany’s financial records, stating that receipts for credit card purchases were rarely provided.

Lightfoot's investigation also revealed that two Dolton's officers had accumulated excessive overtime, with a Former Deputy Chief earning as much as $96,000 more than he was supposed to this year, according to CBS.

Tiffany’s Response and Spending Sparks Controversy

Tiffany clapped back on social media this week, denying the allegations and claiming that Former Mayor Lightfoot was paid $400 per hour while investigating her. Later, Tiffany was seen at an event, recording herself and declaring that she remains the mayor of Dolton.

One source reports that during Tiffany's time in office, Dolton's firefighters faced unpaid health insurance, lost retirement funds, and had their families' unpaid medical bills sent to collections.

This story is so unbelievable that I cannot make this up—even if you paid me to.

After some reseach into Tiffany’s background, she promoted herself everywhere in Dolton, from billboards and government magazines to social media, where she portrayed herself as an influencer by cracking jokes, making motivational/silly reels, and releasing a diss track for her "haters" who questioned her ability to be mayor.

The city of Dolton is now $3.65 million in debt. Since 2023, taxpayer money has been spent on $23,926 in meals, $22,530 on billboards with Tiffany’s face, $67,000 on first-class flights, and $22,445 in total for two hotel stays in Alabama and New York, according to WGN News.

I do try not to get political here on my blog, but this story highlights how some powerful influencers prioritize prestige and wealth over doing good, solely benefiting themselves.
